The Offline Navigation Suite is a self-contained set of mapping and navigation resources on the GridDownData drive: regional OpenStreetMap vector databases for turn-by-turn routing, high-resolution USGS Topographic GeoPDFs, and the Lost Art of Navigation training guide. Everything is stored locally so you can route, read terrain, and learn navigation without GPS, cell service, or cloud maps.

Yes. Every file lives on the drive itself, so the OpenStreetMap routing databases, topographic GeoPDFs, and training guides all open with no network connection. Your phone can still fix its position from its internal GPS chip against the offline maps even when cell towers are down, and the topographic maps and training guide work with no device at all.

The suite pairs two complementary formats. OpenStreetMap vector databases power turn-by-turn routing on a smartphone and stay sharp at any zoom while using little storage. USGS Topographic GeoPDFs are high-resolution government survey maps showing contour lines, elevation, water, and trails, ideal for terrain association and for printing. Together they cover both road routing and backcountry land navigation.

The GeoPDF topographic maps open in a standard PDF reader on any computer or phone and can be printed for a no-battery paper backup. The OpenStreetMap vector data loads into free, widely used offline mapping apps that read standard OSM formats, so nothing proprietary is required. The included guide walks through loading the files and reading them in the field.
